A lot of people don’t get Twitter. I didn’t at first.
My first experience with Twitter went something like this:
- Log onto Twitter Account
- Update Status
- I have 2 friends
- Check one week later and still 2 friends
- “I don’t get why this is so hot…”
- Check again in two weeks “Hmm… boring”
- 2 months pass without a thought.
Of course, I think the future of micro-blogging will involve a lot more focus. Instead of the violently open-ended question, “What are you doing right now,” we’ll see more focused micro-blogs–focused around topics that interest people. Until these focused micro-blogs become more prominent (VentureDig), I think it wise to use Twitter for the fact that tons of data is available on the platform.
Additionally, focused micro-blogs and unfocused micro-blogs (Twitter) are much more complementary than competitive.
In this video blog I talk about how to embrace Twitter’s capabilities.
